Suspended Modulating Natural Gas Warm Air Heating

The Challenge

This was a new training centre at Walker Park in Blackburn for apprentices to learn about the welding and engineering trade and was specifically built for that purpose.  The premises was a new build and needed a good efficient heating system which included de-stratification fans, controls and door contacts added in as so the system was at its most efficient when in use. The heaters are also modulating so it brought the energy use efficiency right down on gas usage.

The Solution

We chose Powrmatic as our supplier for the heating equipment as the heaters were built in the UK and have a proven record of being reliable and very efficient over the years as well as the controls and the de-stratification fans.

We supplied and installed two Powrmatic LXF 90 (90Kw) suspended modulating natural gas warm air heaters suspended from the crane rail, the heaters came complete with concentric (room sealed flue systems) which terminated through the side cladding. We then added a bank of five Powrmatic CECX 1400 with thermostats built onto them as standard to blow the heat down to the apprentices as hot air rises, so this added on a saving of 25% gas usage on to the heaters. The heaters were then controlled by two Powrmatic MC200 control panels which we added roller shutter contactors so that the heaters would not come on when the doors were open this added again another saving on gas usage as having open doors with a warm air heating system installed and the doors being open is just a waste of heat.

The Result

The heating system is a great success, and the staff of the building are very pleased with the system as it keeps them very warm during cold days and is cheap to run but is a tried and tested method of heating a building and has been for many years.
